Hi, I'm Derekah Kingery!

I founded Stonecatcher to work with small business owners, nonprofits, and community organizations that are led by people who have the passion and experience to do what they do, but need a thinking partner to help them build strategy that allows them to flourish.

I got into marketing almost by accident while I was finishing my MBA. The more I worked with small businesses and organizations, the more I kept running into the same roadblocks. The clients I worked with were passionate about what they did and had the capability and expertise to do it, but had no real strategy underneath that they could build on. So they were kind of winging it. Trying to do marketing with or for them without that foundation made me feel like banging my head against the wall!

My brain is wired for alignment and for logical paths from A to B. Finding out in 2025 that I'm AuDHD really explained a lot for me. In marketing, I could see clearly how everything connects back to brand identity, values, and mission. That felt non-negotiable to me. And because I love to see small businesses and mission-led, values-led organizations thrive, I knew I wanted to help create those logical paths for those without them.

Small business owners, nonprofits, and community organizations face real obstacles. Bad advice, limited resources, and systems built for corporations and not the little guys. But the obstacles aren't only external. Many of the people I work with are also navigating full lives. They have families to care for, health challenges, brains that work differently, and there are very real limits to how much one person can carry and still do good work. Most people I work with are also deeply active in their communities. They serve on boards, volunteer, coach youth sports, sing in choirs, perform in local theater, are active in their local politics. They show up for everyone around them. I want to be someone who shows up for them.
